Lou Bou is a photographer based in Montreal. They hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Photography, from Concordia University. Their artistic practice is distinguished by a focus on tintype portraiture, a 19th-century photographic technique that captures images on metal plates. Passionate about analog photographic processes, they also explore film photography, textile art, and videography.

Lou's exploration of tintype photography finds an interesting contrast with their practice of embroidery. The hardness and resilience of metal clash with the softness and comforting nature of thread, prompting reflections on repair and care. By juxtaposing traditional processes with contemporary issues, they question access to archives and how erased histories continue to repeat themselves. Their approach opens a dialogue on utopia as a practice of hope.
